1932 - 2003
Original owner, Ezequiel Ramirez, was born in San Jose Del Resplandor, Leon Guanajuato, MX. At the age of 16, he was taught the business of buying and selling of cattle by his father. Mr. Ramirez worked as a cattle broker until he was 30, then transitioned into the construction industry and continued his career in that field after moving to San Antonio in 1968. More than 20 years later he returned to his true calling and opened Culebra Meat Market with his sons.
Mrs. Sara Ramirez, the wife of Ezequiel, offered her complete support and was the backbone of the store’s success. The legacy of Mr. & Mrs. Ramirez business success has been carried on by their family. He and his wife had a total of 13 children, who all at one point or another have managed a Culebra Meat Market store in the past and present.

Serving San Antonio For 40 Years
Culebra Meat Market has its roots deeply embedded in the cultural fabric of San Antonio, Texas. Established in 1983 by the Ramirez family, it started as a small neighborhood meat market catering primarily to the local Hispanic community.
In its early days, Culebra Meat Market focused on providing high-quality meats, often sourced locally, and traditional Mexican cuts that were not readily available in mainstream supermarkets. This specialization quickly earned the market a loyal customer base who appreciated the authentic flavors and personalized service.
As the years passed, Culebra Meat Market expanded its offerings beyond just meats. The market began to stock a variety of Hispanic groceries, including spices, tortillas, and canned goods, becoming a one-stop shop for the community's culinary needs.
One of the key factors in Culebra Meat Market's success was its commitment to maintaining strong ties with the local community. The Ramirez family actively participated in community events, supported local charities, and sponsored youth sports teams, ingraining themselves as integral members of the neighborhood.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, as San Antonio experienced rapid growth and demographic changes, Culebra Meat Market seized the opportunity to expand its reach. New locations were opened in different parts of the city, allowing the market to serve a more diverse customer base while still retaining its commitment to quality and tradition.
Over the years, Culebra Meat Market has continued to evolve, adapting to changing consumer preferences and culinary trends while staying true to its roots. Today, it remains a beloved fixture in the San Antonio community, cherished not only for its exceptional products but also for the sense of family and belonging it fosters among its customers.
